My Photo Essay
This project is supposed to symbolize who I am in 7-11 pictures, with no words used. These photos show the environment I live in, the things I enjoy, and the people who mean the most to me in my life.
Portrait of Will
In class we studied the difference between likenesses and portraits. Portraits are supposed to show you a part of the person. This picture is of my best friend Will.

Gender Studies Project
Artist Statement
While thinking of a project for our gender studies unit, I knew I wanted to use photography to get my point across. I was interested in playing around and switching up the clothing and body language associated with each gender. Using my 2 best friends; Ilana and Kyle, I dressed them up in clothes that enhanced there masculine and feminine sides. I then showed them how to use some of the classic poses that are used by their opposite gender. For women that's having a lot of hands touching the face or in the mouth and exaggerated face and body poses. For men that's looking stiff, serious, and not having a lot of strong emotions or goofiness. I wanted to really dramatize it while making sure you can still tell the gender they identify with. I think everyone has a "masculine" and "feminine" side and I loved being able to see both in one picture. To me, these photos feel natural, like there's nothing out of the ordinary. I do know that some people are uncomfortable with the idea of a man dressing as a women because it feels like they're giving up there power as a man. When women do the same thing and dress up like a man, people don't feel the same way since all they're giving up is there femininity. The overall message I was trying to get across in this project is that the "looks" we associate with each gender, don't exclusively need to go with that gender. Everyone has some masculinity and femininity inside them wither they want to let it out or not. I think in the years to come we will start to see more and more of people not being afraid to step out of there gender boundaries and into the world of gender neutrality.
